“What I dream of is an art of balance, of purity and serenity devoid of troubling or depressing subject matter – a soothing, calming influence on the mind, rather like a good armchair which provides relaxation from physical fatigue.” Henri Matisse
I had the opportunity to visit again Fairchild Botanical Garden. This organization is working to preserve some of Madagascar’s unique plants. I cannot describe the beauty of this forest! According to the website wwf.panda.org/ it is estimated that 85% of the island’s 12,000 species of flowering plants are found nowhere else in the world.
“We need the tonic of wildness…At the same time that we are earnest to explore and learn all things, we require that all things be mysterious and unexplorable, that land and sea be indefinitely wild, unsurveyed and unfathomed by us because unfathomable. We can never have enough of nature.” Henry David Thoreau. Walden: Or Life in the Woods
Fairchild Botanical Garden just started exhibiting the amazing work of American artist Dale Chihuly. His glass sculptures/installations are so beautiful and refreshing for the soul. The garden is breathtaking and the perfect setting for these pieces. Besides the exotic flora some birds can be spotted as well as other animals if you are lucky. I will share other images in a new post later this week.
