Jocote is a tropical fruit. According to the http://www.goodfruitguide  “the fruit has a thin skin which is purple-red or yellow when ripe. The flesh is juicy and acidic and can be eaten fresh (ripe or unripe), squeezed for juice or preserved. Other names, among many, for jocote are: mombin, red mombin, Spondia mobin, Spanish plum, Hog plum.” As you can see the tree is not pretty, but rather a bit wild. Right now rainy season started so these jocotes you see here (red) are no longer available. Another kind of jocote can be found for the july-september season.
